Normally it's annoying as hell giving all the new people the tedious "Welcome to the Barge, try not to break anything" speech, but I didn't mind as much this time around. [He's still enjoying having Buffy around. Oh, and Andrew's here too. Which is... better than some people who could have shown up.]

I could probably prove it to you. Come meet you in person. Show you that the shift is not just a trick, but something that actually happens, Show you how I don't have a pulse or a reflection. But honestly I don't care enough to bother.

You're right. I also might not have accepted it because it's pretty insane. Just putting that out there.

Yeah, I'm sure you could. You don't pull a trick like the one you just did without some follow through. That just makes you good at what you do, not a vampire. I can still respect it though.

There's also the part where I'm stronger and faster than most humans, drink blood every day, and have been alive over a century and a half.

Nice backstory. Can you even pick the year that you were born in?

Did you pick that year for any particular reason or did it just sound suitably old?

Well, I struggled for a while, but then I decided to pick it because it's when I was born.

I can see how that must have been quite a battle for you.

You're on an interdimensional prison ship. I don't see why vampires are such a stretch after that.

Smart? I thought I was delusional for thinking I was a vampire.

I changed my mind. It's a pretty good con. Making all the people around here think that you're some kind of all powerful monster. It's a good way to get influence very quickly.

Yeah, I'm brilliant like that. So're all the other vampires on board. And the other nasties we sometimes get.

An idea can spread very quickly, sometimes. Do you guys have your own special club?

Not really. I mean, I think some of the others'd like to have one, bloodsucker solidarity and whatnot, but I've never been one for playing nice with others. Anyway, these days I get on much better with humans than other vampires. Long story. Ends with me not being evil anymore.

What does a 'vampire' do to be evil anyway? It's not like you can actually drink blood.

Well, yeah, actually, we can.

Generally speaking, the evil ones kill humans and the good ones don't.

Humans kill humans and that doesn't always make them 'evil'. Sometimes it just makes them practical.

Non-evil humans don't generally do it in bulk, and they generally have more reason besides it's fun, and they generally don't eat their victims.

Humans also have souls.

A 'soul'. How poetic. You're a philosopher vampire now as well?

Not really. I'm not one for deep thoughts and pondering the nature of reality and whatnot. As it happens, I've experienced life with and without a soul, so I know that exists.
